Alright peeps.
A lovely thing happened on the last day of May this year and that was that my track ‘Padstow May Song’ from my ‘Till April Is Dead’ album was raised, braised, dissected, bisected and discussed in this weeks edition of the programme ADD TO PLAYLIST on BBC Radio 4.
Musician guests are invited to bring in tracks that lead them out of and into other tracks to make a playlist with some sort of linkage (can be quite random mind). Said pieces are broken down and explored in a myriad of intriguing ways. Folksinger, song collector and activist, Sam Lee, only went and put my track between Beyonce’s ‘Freedom’ (WHAAT!!) and Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Tusk’ (WHAAT!!). Well, I am more than overly chuffed to be the filling in a Beyonce, Fleetwood Mac sandwich and really I’ve got the people of Padstow to thank for that. So “thanks” people of Padstow, for your song and captivating traditions. And thanks to Sam Lee for bringing my version of this song to the programme. (Sam Lee’s latest release Song Dreaming is out now to great acclaim.)
Listen again here. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001zmbr
Goes without saying the whole programme is rather cool and starts with a compelling delve into the legendary Dr Who theme music but my bit starts at 28:16.
G I G n e w s:
I have a few gigs coming up in various collaborative projects.
* First up Hack Poets Guild will be at Cambridge Folk Festival 27th July and Womad Festival on 28th July - Our album ‘Black Letter Garland’ was released in 2023 on One Little Independent - see previous posts for more info on HPG.
** Second up I announce “ ahem, ahem” I am part of a brand new duo project with multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and fiddle player extraordinaire partner Gerry Diver called (imaginatively) Lisa Knapp and Gerry Diver. We are busy right now making our new album (Gerry is also about to release his 3rd studio album and its a delight- more on that soon) and we’ll be playing our launch gig at Hartlepool Folk Festival on 4 October.
I will be playing a small solo spot in London in September but Mum is the word on that till 4 July.
Bye for now. x
